  • Sister City Flights - week 6 - Hiroshima (Japan) - Herikoputa!

This week we'll emphasize rotorcraft over the beautiful Japanese landscape, remembering our friend Hawg's popular Sunday flights from three years ago.

Hiroshima became Volgograd's ninth Sister City in 1972.

Start 1st stop 2nd stop 3rd stop Last stop
    RJOB RJOT RJOK RJOM RJBH*
    Okayama Takamatsu Kochi Matsuyama Hiroshimanishi
*Helicopters only in real life since Oct 2012 and runway painted with Xs. However, FSX and XP11 show runway still open.

Flight plans: https://is.gd/StormsFlightPlans (both .PLN and .FMS files available)

Cruise: 130 knots indicated, altitude at pilot's discretion, up to 6,000 ft a.s.l. max. over mountains.

Aircraft: Rotorcraft are encouraged (but not mandatory). All herikoputa (helicopter) are good, but if you want to fly a Rotodyne or Verticopter (or even an Osprey or AW609) that's fine too. Autogyros are not recommended as the cruise speed is too high.
Fixed wings are also acceptable - there's no shame or stigma if you're uncomfortable with rotary wings! The shortest runway is 5900 ft long.

SimLink codes: Make sure yours is AS32, AS50, CH47, UH1 or UH60 if you're flying rotorcraft.

Scenery: Default is OK. FSX includes famous landmarks, such as the Genbaku Dome and the Itsukushima Torii (see pics), 2 nmi and 6 nmi from our final stop.

    Server: SimLink AU server: 101.165.150.139

Simulators: All welcome: FS9, FSX boxed, FSX Steam edition, Prepar3D, X-Plane.

Reminder (and trivia questions!): Bring your rotorcraft to RJOB tonight at 9pm eastern in SimLink for our 130 kt flight in Japan.

    Awfully hard™ trivia questions:
    1. A peach, a boy, and a talking dog, monkey and pheasant. Where are they from?
    2. At 1400 years, it's one of the oldest in Japan. And it's hot. What and where is it?
    3. In what year did a sitting US president first visit Hiroshima?
    4. Where is there a little red bridge with a sad love story attached to it?
    5. At which airport might it be unwise to leave your aircraft unattended, and why?
    6. There are 88 of these places to visit. What are they and who would visit them?

Answers during the flight only please (not below!).

Two pictures on behalf of Lazerbolt, who flew the journey in a Fairey Rotodyne in FSX.

Some pics, flying over islands in the Seto Inland Sea, and approaching our final airport - Hiroshimanishi - at sunset in my Verticopter in X-Plane 11.
