NMS is not "better"; it's just "different". It's not multiplayer in the way that Elite Dangerous is, as you'll probably never meet another human player! I'm still looking forward to it though. It's on my wishlist, and my birthday is coming up, hint hint...:chuncky:

NMS now out on Playstation. Watched a livestream launch party. Watched plenty of videos. Looks good. Bought the Steam PC pre-order (bonus ship) as it's still valid for 2 days.

does NMS have any industry or manufacturing? Only info I could find is that you can trade resources for a ship. In the past I was attracted to Eve Online because you could manufacture your ship and modules from asteroid mining, or just buy them on the market if your lazy.

Not sure about industry or manufacturing, but Crafting is a huge part of NMS. There's a big survival element in the game. You have a ship, a weapon and a suit, and each has an inventory with finite numbers of slots. Those slots include systems (such as shields) that do not replenish automatically, and that take simple or refined resources. You have to find and mine raw materials from planets and asteroids and craft what you need from those to recharge or enhance your systems. Or, yeah, buy/trade for them, but markets and traders are not always convenient on unexplored planets!

Careful if you pre-order though. You can download a better ship as a bonus. But maybe don't install that straightaway. Learn how to make and fuel hyperdrives first, or you could get stranded.

No Man's Sky releases for PC at 1pm eastern Friday! :eagerness: Meanwhile Hello Games are aware of the pre-order problem (see my last post). They say: "It has been reported that using the pre-order bonus ship will leave some players stranded, if they purchase or transfer to a new ship that does not have a hyperdrive (if done very early in game). In most cases the player is actually able to continue (107 of the 135 reports emailed so far). The game already detects the player needs a hyperdrive and directs them to a nearby NPC who will give the player the hyperdrive they need. Some other players were able to resolve this issue by restarting their console." More news here.

Download free NASA retro space travel posters that are uncannily like the color style of No Man's Sky. :eagerness:

Late edit: Downloaded all the posters. 640 Mbytes of TIF files. All 20"x30" at 300dpi.
Printed them all out half-size on semi-glossy 11"x17" card.
They look gorgeous! :love_heart: Much better in print than on the web.
                  Instant Gaming Den decoration! :eagerness:

There's already a big modding community for No Man's Sky (not endorsed by Hello Games or Sony). The low flying mod is one of the most popular and overrides the safety autopilot. "LowFlight lets you fly as low to the ground as you want and be able to look in any direction (normally, your ship cannot point downwards when near the ground). You can also fly underwater! ... Note: Your ship will take damage if you crash into terrain, so don't get too crazy!" Flying your spacecraft with the low flying mod probably feels more natural for FSX/P3D pilots but, yeah, you can even fly into and get stuck in caves. :uncomfortableness:

Some mods affect game files and you take responsibility for installing and running any mod. Neither I nor the modders are responsible for damaged games, systems, sanity, or anything else! At the very least, virus check all files, and read all the comments posted to forums about the mod you're interested in, in case there are bugs, glitches or disadvantages.

The main mod site is here: http://nomansskymods.com/
The low-flight mod is here: http://nomansskymods.com/mods/lowfli...-hytek-packed/

Chiming in here because I'm sure I appear otherwise quite distant lately. I bit the proverbial NMS bullet and have been putting nearly-unhealthy hours into it ever since. Though reviews have been mixed, I find that to be more a result of very diverse player base. That there is even a mod site hints at strong acceptance and backing from some users, while others are requesting refunds within their first two gameplay-hours of purchase.

                      Personally, I'm loving it.
Take the time, a second to soar; for soon after, beckons a second more.
