  • GREAT 48! Grand tour of US states. Week #28: Illinois - WEIRD STUFF!

It's April Fools' Day! Let's fly in appropriate style...

    Week 28: Illinois
    KDBQ>C73>3MY>KMQB>KHAE

    FLIGHT PLAN
    • All legs are GPS direct.
    • We'll change course on approach, according to surface wind.
Download the PLN flight plan file here.
Flight plan in tabular form, flight maps and airport diagrams here.

    CRUISE
    Speed: 150 knots
    Altitude: 3000 ft, nominal

    AIRCRAFT
    Weird stuff =
    • Odd looking aircraft, or...
    • Odd looking paint schemes on a normal aircraft, or...
    • Odd looking aircraft with odd looking paint schemes!
Both fixed wing and rotary wing are OK.
Examples from my OneDrive include the Rutan Quickie and the Rotodyne.
I will be flying the doubly odd "Quickie" (see picture below).

Pilots are encouraged to post screenshots and download links for their aircraft before the flight, to allow others to install and see them in all their glory!

    RESTRICTIONS
    No 'normal' looking aircraft!

    WHICH VERSION, CLASSIC OR STEAM?
We will be using Classic, not Steam. We will continue to use Classic in future weeks for the Great 48! until more critical add-ons are working, at which point we'll include Steam in joint Classic/Steam flights, leaving no one behind!

    WEATHER
    To be determined.

    SCENERY
    Default OK.
Highly recommended: FSgenesis US landclass (inexpensive payware).
FTX Global 1.30 and Vector 1.20 good but optional (expensive payware).
Vector users please see recommendations here.

RECOMMENDED SCENERY ADDITIONS FOR FTX GLOBAL USERS
You can download the whole series of freeware FTX global airport packs here.
Dubuque (KDBQ) and Mt Hawley, Peoria (3MY) are Orbx airports.:eagerness:

I originally downloaded the cardboard spitfire from sim outhouse, but it has been taken down now (maybe by the author?). The readme file doesn't say anything about redistributing it, not sure if it would be OK to share.
              Happy landings,
              Lazer

                    Virgin launches glass-bottomed plane

This technological innovation coincides with the start of Virgin Atlantic Airways first ever domestic service to Scotland.

Over the last 3 years the frustration with all those 747's types flying in our vintage prop group flights has finally got to me! I will be flying the 800-1000 passenger Boeing 797 aka. X-48. It's considerably faster than 150 kts, but that has never deterred those that fly the 747. So too I will fly faster (and presumably farther) just to keep up with the group.

Reminder: Bring your weird and foolish aircraft to KDBQ for a 9pm eastern departure.
Trivia: What has this picture to do with our flight tonight? Answers and guesses during the flight itself.

Don't forget to take pictures of your plane and post them to this thread!
